Music DNA

In this post, I would like to discuss the process of songwriting. I feel that very often - if not always - a song must have a part that will define the whole thing. Like DNA. Maybe it is a guitar or bass riff, maybe the drum rhythm, maybe a phrase in the lyrics. For me, it always starts with music. Once the melody is defined, a phrase from a future verse or chorus would come to my mind, and then there is no way of stopping it. The song is written, the main idea is developed eloquently. Yet in the end, the message is simply enhanced. It did not change much. It just got bigger. It got explained. Let me know how songwriting works in your case. What is your music DNA?

News:
I am launching a new space on my website where I will feature Instagram influencers, podcast creators, other playlist curators, and maybe eventually some labels too. Note that I do not receive commission from any dealings between the artists and third-party content creators. Nor do I interfere at all. My goal is to provide space where people can meet and collaborate. I do not take any responsibility for the outcomes of said collaborations unless I am part of them.

Final Thoughts:

Have you ever woken up a millisecond before the alarm clock sounds? Did you ever sense the taste of food you were cooking before it was cooked? Have you had a moment when listening to a tune you could immediately think of the vocal part or an entire arrangement? All I am trying to say is that we all have strong intuition, and it should be used in the process of songwriting. I do not mean to deny the use of predefined forms or a calculated approach to composition. I rather think that both should go hand in hand, together. Would you agree? Let me know what you think the right approach is. Or is there one?
